Atonement led the pack in the movie categories at Thursday morning's 65th Annual Golden Globe nominations with seven nods, including best drama, a best director nomination for Joe Wright, and best acting nods for James McAvoy and Keira Knightley. Also coming up big was Charlie Wilson's War, which received a best picture nod in the Musical or Comedy category, best screenplay honors for Aaron Sorkin, a lead actor nomination for Tom Hanks, and supporting nods for Philip Seymour Hoffman and Julia Roberts. Hoffman also earned a comedic lead actor nomination for his role in The Savages. Another two-time nominee was Cate Blanchett, who received a best dramatic actress nod for the title role in Elizabeth: The Golden Age and a supporting actress nomination for her portrayal of Bob Dylan in I'm Not There. Early awards-season favorites There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men were both nominated for best drama, and Blood's Daniel Day-Lewis and Country's Javier Bardem followed up their critics' awards with best actor and supporting actor nominations, respectively.

In addition to Atonement, Blood, and Country, the best drama nominees included American Gangster, Michael Clayton, Eastern Promises, and The Great Debaters. Charlie Wilson's War was joined on the best comedy/musical list by Across the Universe, Hairspray, Juno, and Sweeney Todd.

In the TV categories, newcomers Pushing Daisies and Damages came up big, with best comedy and drama nominations, respectively, and actor nominations for Daisies' Lee Pace and Anna Friel, and Damages' Glenn Close and Ted Danson. 30 Rock is up for best comedy and scored actor honors for Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey, and will compete with best comedy nominee The Office, which also nabbed an actor nod for star Steve Carell.
